Since August of last year, Jonas and I have been exploring a relationship we call “radical relating.” One of the principles of our relating space is transparency—Jonas and I share whatever is happening with us, no matter how dark, embarrassing, or unpleasant it may seem, so we can be with each other in all our parts. This means revealing parts of ourselves that people typically try to keep hidden in relationship—wounded parts, parts that are scared of abandonment, parts that want to control or possess the other.

Right now, I am in the process of researching where the line is, or if there is a line at all: does there come a point where sharing all of myself—my hidden world and survival strategies—no longer serves the relating space?

So far, I have not discovered one. Even sharing the most unlikable, most unlovable parts of ourselves has the potential to create more intimacy. What it does require, however, is some skill on the part of the other in holding space. This story is a legend of that.

One morning a few months ago, I woke up and found myself in the Swamp. Perhaps you know this place—where everything seems grey and hopeless, full of stories like “I’ll never make it” and “Nobody understands me.” As I lay there, despondent, Jonas asked me what was going on. In the spirit of transparency, I managed to say something like, “I miss [my ex] and how much he adored me.”

The words Jonas said to me then were calm, loving, and very clear:

“I am not available for your Swamp and Victim story. I am available for you to tell me what you want, as an adult, without using your ex-partner as a way to hide.”

I was shocked at being met this way on several levels.

For starters, Jonas was with me in my emotional reactivity and stayed completely centered in himself. He could have easily gone into his own wound when I mentioned my ex—about “not being enough,” “not being enough of a man,” or any other variety of “not-enough-ness.” (This happens often in couples, where one person’s woundedness triggers another person’s woundedness.) Instead, he remained in “Self Energy” and was able to hold space for my reactivity in that moment. Being centered did not mean he was remote or inaccessible—on the contrary, by being so centered, he made himself available to also be with me. This experience was totally disarming for me, and left me no choice but to come out of my reactivity to meet his centeredness.

From there, he brought clarity about what was happening: that I was using my Victim story about my ex as a way to avoid saying what I wanted in relating with him.

His centeredness and lack of reactivity made it possible for me to check what was actually happening for me, beneath the Swamp: Where was this impulse coming from? What was happening in my world that would lead me to create this Fantasy about a former partner?

When I checked, I discovered that what I was missing and wanting in my relating with Jonas was a sense of his devotion: the masculine adoration of the feminine. I wanted to experience him delighting in me—cherishing me, being in awe of my beauty.

What a scary thing to ask for! No wonder my unconscious survival strategy was to go to the Swamp instead.

When Jonas made the invitation to me to state clearly what I wanted, I had a moment of freaking out, as I discovered what I was longing for and confronted the terror of actually saying that.

When I looked deeper into this terror, I discovered parts of myself that believed I “shouldn’t need to ask” to be showered in reverence and appreciation—I wanted it to happen automatically, without negotiating about it. Beneath that was the Fear that if I “needed to ask” for it, I actually didn’t deserve it. When I saw this survival strategy clearly laid out, I was able to put my emotional Fear to the side and negotiate about what I wanted.

What happened next is a longer story, but in short, Jonas agreed to practice flowing adoration and devotion to me, and I agreed to practice opening myself to receive that devotion.

What Jonas did is not an amateur move. It requires centeredness, connection to Self, and a great deal of skill to hold space for a partner’s reactivity.

By staying centered, Jonas helped me to discover what I wanted (i.e., to be adored) and ask for it consciously—rather than expecting it to be given to me unconsciously. Instead of getting hooked by my Victim story, he simply set a boundary about it, without any drama of his own.

As I continue to discover, my closest relationships are my greatest teachers, because in them, there is no more hiding. Relating with Jonas is like standing in a hall of mirrors and seeing every facet of myself reflected back at me.

In the space between us, there is no more hiding.

Since August, my relating space with a man named Jonas Ratza has become a potent laboratory for transformation. In loving another human so closely, I have experienced profound aliveness, collaboration, intimacy, and healing. At the same time, I have been brought face to face with my survival strategies in ways that are confronting and often heartbreaking. Evolution happens here at a rapid pace, as my unconscious patterns are thrown into sharp relief and old parts of me are asked to die.

This section is a place to record those discoveries. It’s called Field Notes on Love: reflections on boundaries, expectations, polarity, transparency, responsibility, healing, creation, navigating wounded identities, what it means to relate as a man and a woman, and more.

Getting to the point of sharing these discoveries has been a journey of facing my emotional fears:

• I feel afraid that, if the relationship ends, people reading these notes will judge me as naïve.

• I feel afraid that writing about love tempts fate, i.e., naming it will somehow “jinx” it.

• I feel afraid that people will judge me as arrogant for presuming to write about love at all.

The fact that I am writing here is a testament to the impact of what I have learned over the past seven months and how much it matters to me to share it with all of you. My relating space with Jonas has been the place where my deepest patterns of survival have been revealed. Facing into them has been the most powerful crucible for transformation I have experienced in my life.

Tamera, the Peace Research & Education Center in southern Portugal where Jonas and I met, holds as one of its core principles that, if we heal the relationship between men and women, we can heal the world.

I think they may be right.

For the last 3 months I have been pouring my heart, soul, and life force energy into a project called Regenera.

I have never been so in love with a project, because I have never experienced a project as not being separate from myself.

This is the work I want to bring into the world—seeding regenerative communities that do the work of transformation so humanity can heal from the inside out.

The collaboration between me, Nina Chausow, Jonas Ratza, and now Karl Steyaert has unfolded in a way I can only describe as beautiful and inevitable. At every turn, I have been amazed by the synchronicities, the resonance between us, and the signs from the Universe pointing to YES.

So, what is Regenera?

Regenera is a living laboratory dedicated to seeding a global network of transformational communities.

Small, regenerative communities offer a pathway out of the metacrisis—and yet most community projects fall apart because they don’t have the tools to create and sustain responsible and conscious relational dynamics. Even Tamera, a place that has inspired so many with its commitment to global peace and systems change, is going through a kind of death as its group field dissolves.

Regenera is a space to experiment with technologies for human development and relating, to cross-pollinate transformational methods, to report on those findings, and to share them with other projects as scalable blueprints. Our team brings decades of experience in community building and deep expertise in transformational modalities, including Possibility Management, NVC, and IFS.

Moreover, by collaborating with emerging initiatives, Regenera catalyzes their transition into large-scale community projects with lasting impact.

Phase I launches on March 9th, 2026 at Avalonhuset in Denmark, a transformational hub run by Aon Solarra and Vienera Godsvil. A core team of 8-10 full-time residents will lay the groundwork for this Gaian Village, which has already received a building permit for 25 houses, and deliver transformational work to the Danish Ecovillage Movement at this year’s annual summit.

Phase II & III are in the works, with activations scheduled for upstate New York (June-August) and Portugal (October-December).

Dear Edgeworker,

Survival is trying to recreate the same conditions over and over again.

In essence, survival = familiarity. What is known is what is safe. This is why we so often recreate patterns from childhood, even ones that are damaging or harmful.

In my relationships, I am practicing getting out of survival (i.e., automatism and routine) and accessing possibilities that come from a place of conscious choice.

Because my closest relationships are the ones where I am the most “comfortable,” they are also the ones where I am most likely to fall asleep. By asleep, I mean falling back into old patterns and forgetting the tools I have learned to relate consciously.

The past few weeks, Jonas has been visiting me in New York. Since August, Jonas and I have been in a Radical Relating Experiment, meaning I am on his team for his Path and he is on mine, with no Expectations that we will relate to each other in any particular way.

As our relationship has deepened, however, it has become more and more familiar, which means it has also become easier and easier to fall asleep.

When I am asleep, old habits arise, such as suppressing my Feelings. This is a Survival Strategy from childhood, when I did not know how to use my Feelings consciously. Instead, I numb and suppress, and my Gremlin uses the energy and information from my Feelings unconsciously to create Resentments and Low Drama.

An illustrative example:

I saw that Jonas had left his wet towel hanging on the back of the door, instead of on the drying rack. I felt a low-level twinge of Anger because I wanted the towel to dry properly and not mildew. In my Survival Strategy, I would suppress the Anger out of unconscious Fear of “nagging.” My Box has a rule that I need to be nice and pleasant, to not offend or make life difficult for others, especially a man I am relating with. The result is I would not say anything and instead start creating stories in my head about Jonas: He is not responsible, he does not take care of my things, he is careless and inconsiderate, etc.

While this may seem like a minor example, the consequences are enormous. My Gremlin would unconsciously apply this Anger to start creating Resentment and build up justifications for Revenge: giving Jonas the cold shoulder, treating him like a child, making passive-aggressive “jokes,” etc. All of this would happen in an instant: in the time it takes for me to see the towel, turn away, “forget” about it, and file the information in my subconscious.

When I am awake, I can lower my Numbness Bar enough to recognize the Anger and use it consciously. I can say to Jonas: “I feel Angry you left your towel on the back of the door because I want it to dry properly. Will you please hang it on the drying rack next time?”

The choices I make in each of these small moments add up. Brick by brick, they create a relating space that is built either of unconscious Assumptions, Expectations, Resentment, and Revenge, or of conscious Feeling, responsible Encoding and Decoding, Creation, Collaboration, and Winning Happening.

One hint I have found is that, when I am relating consciously, about 90 percent of my communications will begin with the Feelings Form: “I feel mad/sad/scared/glad because… (heart communication)… and what I want is… therefore I propose (creation, proposal, negotiation, question).”

Dear Edgeworker,

Recently, I have discovered the extent to which I use Fantasy Worlds as a strategy to not be present in my life.

It began at the Possibility Village Lab in October, where I began the practice of making a small black dot on the page every time I tuned out or unconsciously entered a Fantasy World.

What I was surprised to discover was that my Fantasy Worlds were not a space of pure, unadulterated Joy, but rather a mix of Joy and Sadness—what one could call nostalgia, sentimentality, romance, or a kind of future nostalgia for an experience I might one day have.

It is the same experience I get from shooting film, or reading poetry—“romance” in the sense of Rilke, Keats, or Shelley.

This strategy of creating Fantasy Worlds began in school, where I was often bored, and entertained myself by coming up with stories or drifting off into daydreams. Because I did not have the power to create what I actually wanted in that moment—a more interesting lesson—my survival strategy was to sit back, become a passive observer, and allow Fantasy to take hold.

When I do this, I let myself become a Victim of the spaces I am in—merely enduring them, or even worse, waiting for them to be over.

In the words of Jonas, whom I met at Tamera and have been in a Radical Relating experiment with for the past few months, this “waiting for it to be over” is really a denial of Life itself—wanting Life to be over, wanting all of it to end, simply because I cannot take responsibility to create the circumstances I really want.

If I slow down the process of victimizing myself, here is how it goes: I do not notice that I am feeling something (usually Anger, but also Sadness or Fear) because I have a high Numbness Bar—maybe I have been drinking caffeine, maybe I have given my authority away to the spaceholder, maybe I am being adaptive because I have Thoughtware that says I cannot possibly make such daring moves, they will all kill me…

Then, instead of using my Feelings to shift the space, I slowly allow myself to dissociate—to take a backseat and start “watching TV,” as if I have no possible say in how the space can go.

As soon as I am in this disempowered state, I lose presence, and Fantasy Worlds begin to spring up like weeds through sidewalk cracks.

When I am creating, however, it is impossible for me to be in a Fantasy World. When I am actively feeling my Anger, Fear, Sadness, and Joy and bringing my impulses into a space, there is no room for Fantasy to slip in.

If I feel angry because the conversation has shifted to football, I can make a nonlinear move—I can look inside for what I want to source, even if it seems completely unreasonable, and say, “I want to hear more about those times you experienced unconditional Love.”

If I feel sad because someone revealed they had a miscarriage but covered it over with a laugh, I can say, “I’m feeling sad right now about what you shared and want to give some space that.” I can reveal myself without trying to force the other person to feel or go first in being vulnerable.

If I feel fear because a friend I have not seen in years is talking very quickly and neurotically, complaining about the weather or their boss, I can say, “I feel scared that this conversation is staying on the surface level right now, and I want to be real with you.”

As my friend Valentin recently wrote, “There is no reason whatsoever, no matter what somebody just said, to reply to them linearly within the same level of responsibility from which they spoke.”

This principle applies to any space I find myself in—in Authentic Relating workshops, in women’s circles, in conversations with family, in Uber rides with friends, in line at the airport, on my way to the grocery store.

For me, then, the question has become less “How do I avoid going into Fantasy Worlds?” and more “How can I keep creating from what I am feeling in each moment?”

Dear Edgeworker,

Most of us did not learn to consciously grieve—to accept Death, endings, and loss.

Growing up, I was overwhelmed by what I saw happening around me: homeless people freezing on the streets of New York City, parents yelling at their children, deer struck by cars on the edge of the road.

At a certain point, I simply stopped allowing myself to feel. The depth of Sadness, Anger, and Fear I felt was profound, and I had not learned how to feel consciously.

Instead, my feelings were diverted to unconscious (survival) strategies, like mixing Sadness and Fear to create Despair, or creating Low Drama by making the situation “wrong.”

I did not want to be in Despair, so I numbed myself until I stopped feeling the pain of what is actually happening on this planet.

Recently—in the past few years—I learned that there is a way to feel my Sadness without making something wrong or being a victim. For example, I can feel my Sadness and express it consciously when I say, “I feel sad summer is ending because I miss how green everything was.”

The victimhood comes in when I put a layer of wrongness on top of the Sadness—for example, by saying that it shouldn’t be ending, or that it’s wrong that it’s ending.

Anytime I say that something should not be happening, I am subtly sliding into victimhood.

What if nothing is wrong, what if nothing should be different, and I can simply be in the heartbreak of how things are?

When I was first learning to consciously feel, I found that without the wrong-making, I could not access my Sadness, because my sadness was tied to my victimhood.

With time and practice, I began to be able to feel my Sadness consciously, without any victimhood attached.

When I am in victim Sadness, I feed my Gremlin by creating Low Drama, asking “Why?” and wallowing in self-pity. When I feel and express my Sadness consciously, it allows me to be with What Is—to accept reality, so that from there I can choose to create something different.

A month ago, activists John Quigley and Jessica Klampe visited Tamera. They shared about an action they led with school children on either side of the US-Mexico border. Afterwards, the children ran up to the wall, through the enforcement zone on the US side, and began waving to one another.

I felt Sadness come up inside me, and in that moment, I became aware that my usual pattern would be to suppress the feeling.

This numbing mechanism had become so automatic that I almost didn’t notice it anymore.

What if all of us learned to consciously grieve? To feel our pain—our Sadness, Anger, and Fear—about children separated by borders, about the genocide in Gaza, about the corruption of our political systems, without going into victimhood or helplessness?

What if we held space for each other to feel all of it?

Maybe then we could start to come to terms with What Is—to grieve consciously, through Fear (Denial), Anger, Sadness (Depression), and Joy (Acceptance)—so we can start to build a different world.

Dear Edgeworker,

Things are meant to die.

You and I were raised in a culture that fears Death. Billionaire-funded longevity projects designed to “defeat aging.” The glorification of constant productivity. End-of-life care that seeks to simply prolong the number of hours a person can be certified as medically alive.

Modern Culture is incapable of facing into the Void with Dignity.

The extent to which I accept and honor Death—in myself, my relating spaces, and my community—is the extent to which I can be a vessel for Evolution.

Tamera, where I am now, is an example of what can happen when a community resists Death.

After years of being governed by one charismatic leader, the community is now experiencing an unintentional Void in spaceholding.

Tamera never created a culture of spaceholders replacing themselves. Instead of training apprentices to take their place, the founding generation maintained authority over cultural and political matters until their founder, Dieter Duhm, fell seriously ill.

As a consequence, nobody from the next generation has been trained or is willing to step forward and begin holding space for the new Culture and new Gameworld that is aching to be birthed here.

If Death is not honored as a conscious aspect of the Evolution process, it will manifest unconsciously.

Last week I visited Tamera’s Stone Circle, which represents 96 archetypes that are necessary for the construction of a Healing Biotope. I found myself with my back against a white stone with an emblem of wings outstretched, one up towards heaven and one down to Earth.

As our guide Sarah passed by, she told me this stone was the Guardian of the Threshold, who straddles Birth and Death.

Those who seek me out without recognising me often become melancholy, sad, and anxious, or you shake angrily at my gates without knowing how to open me.

This happens as long as you shrink from the essence of death.

If you no longer shrink from the essence of transformation, you will be able to look through my opening into other worlds. I will show you the stream of power that comes from eternity.

An Evolutionary community is one that honors Death—that respects the Liquid State as a part of the sacred cycles of Creation and Decreation.

I recently learned that, at Damanhur, in northern Italy, any commitment besides raising a child is made for no longer than 1 year—whether it is being a member of the community, following a certain spiritual path, or marriage.

Flux and Impermanence are the First Principles of an Evolutionary Village, rather than tradition and precedent.

It is still a practice for me to welcome Death. To accept that my relating spaces—with my parents, friends, colleagues, and partners—will not stay the same. That simply because somebody wants one kind of intimacy with me today means nothing about what they will want tomorrow. That I will be a different person a year from now.

Dear Edgeworker,

Some years ago, I started seeing T-shirts and water bottle stickers that said Yoga Is For Every Body—meaning, not just for the Lululemon-clad Sexy Angel Goddess Workshop Leaders among us, or their counterparts, the Handsome Holy Tribal Men, but for every body type, regardless of age, race, size, or flexibility.

Just a few decades ago, yoga was still considered a hallmark of “alternative” lifestyles and the counterculture movement. The sentiment Yoga Is For Every Body, which seeks to reclaim the practice from young, thin, bendy, white women on Instagram, is a testament to its rise in popularity over the past 50 years. An excellent indicator of whether something has become truly mainstream is whether or not it has been co-opted by capitalism.

While I don’t wish for Rage Club to be bastardized by Modern Culture in the same way yoga has, what I do wish is for everybody to experience Rage Club, in Every Body.

What do I mean by Every Body? Perhaps you did not know that you actually have 5 Bodies. Besides your Physical Body, which is made up of blood, skin, flesh, and bones, you have an Emotional Body (made up of feelings and emotions); an Energetic Body (your sense of timing, space, and ownership); and an Intellectual Body (ideas, thoughts, thoughtmaps, thoughtware, and beliefs).

You also have an Archetypal Body, which is activated only when the other four Bodies are nourished. Your Archetypal Body is the gateway to your destiny, your purpose, and your Archetypal Lineage.

Rage Club is a practice in connecting to Anger, which is one of the 4 Feelings in the Emotional Body. It is no coincidence that when you connect to Conscious Anger, you begin to fully incarnate—to be here now, in your Physical Body. You start to keep your Center, the source of your Authority in your Energetic Body, around anyone—parents, mentors, so-called gurus, partner(s).

You gain more Clarity in your Intellectual Body about what matters to you. And you may just begin to experience a hint of what it is like for your Archetypal Body to come online.

In fact, Rage Club is a space to connect to all 5 Bodies. It is an initiation into authentic adulthood—the beginning of a journey to take Radical Responsibility for your life and become your destiny in action.

Rage Club is not just for people who have “anger issues.” Nor is it just for spiritual seekers, personal growth junkies, or transformation enthusiasts. It is for Every Body, everybody with a beating heart who longs to experience radical connection and love.

I dream of a day when Rage Club is as “normal” as going to the gym. Of a culture where Feelings are celebrated as neutral life source energy and Emotions as doorways for healing. Where human beings are honored and appreciated not for what they HAVE or DO, but who they ARE—the unique qualities they unfold in the world, simply by virtue of their Being.

This world may not be here yet, but it is on the horizon. In the words of Arundhati Roy: “Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”

Since June, I have been flying through Archetypal spaces—first an Expand The Box with Vera Franco and Devin Gleeson at Youtopia, followed by a Possibility Lab held by Vera in upstate NY, then the Villaging BridgeHouse in Western MA and the Being With BridgeHouse in Boston (read more about these below).

I feel glad to land back in Brooklyn for two weeks before flying out to Portugal, where I’ll spend two months at Tamera, a Healing Biotope and Peace Research Center in the Alentejo.

Dear Edgeworker,

There are many ways to kill intimacy, but one of the best ways I know is by creating unconscious Expectations.

This past month, I visited friends in the Bay Area. I feel sad because often, in my closest relationships, I do not bother to negotiate intimacy, or I believe that I shouldn’t “need” to—as if negotiating intimacy is a chore.

I assume that, because we love each other, we must be on the same page. I assume that the other person thinks the same way I do. Maybe you recognize this pattern from your own intimate relating with your partner or close friends. Maybe you, too, have discovered that using this outdated Standard Human Intelligence Thoughtware (S.H.I.T.) is an excellent way to make a mess of your relating spaces.

At the end of my stay, my friend shared that he felt sad we hadn’t carved out more time to spend together. As we spoke, we began to uncover the many layers of unconscious expectations that each of us had made: how available he would be, how long I would stay, the kind of intimacy we wanted to create together.

It does not matter how “reasonable” these expectations may seem to me (my Box)—whatever they are, their only purpose is to create distance between me and reality. I feel glad because we were able to uncover these expectations without any Low Drama or blame, and I feel angry to commit to something different moving forward.

One of the most effective ways I have found to uncover assumptions before they become expectations is to tune in to my low-level feelings.

When I listen to my low-level Fear, I can sense ahead of time what things might need to be negotiated. When I listen to my low-level Anger, I can notice when a situation is different from what I actually want, even if it is as minor as “I want to hold hands with our fingers entwined and they are not entwined.”

When I listen to my low-level Sadness, I can connect to the Love in my heart and the kind of intimacy I do want with this person. And when I listen to my low-level Joy, I can notice when something is aligned and use that energy to create collaboration or celebration.

Dear Edgeworker,

I am in a Liquid State. A Liquid State is like the metamorphosis a caterpillar undergoes inside a chrysalis when it turns into a sack of goo.

Liquid State is a state of total breakdown. It can be caused by a traumatic event, like a car crash or the loss of a loved one. When a Liquid State occurs, there is the opportunity to come out the other side completely different, though this is not guaranteed.

My Liquid State is about the end of my relationship a year ago. Over the past thirteen months, I have been through intense waves of grief, moving back and forth between the stages of Fear (Denial), Anger, Gremlin (Bargaining), and Sadness (Depression).

In this most recent wave, my Anger and Sadness have been too big for me to hold. I asked a stone to hold them for me and give them back to Gaia. The stone said yes.

Now, I am starting to see glimpses of the last stage, like light through a fog: Joy (Acceptance).

I am grateful to all Four Feelings for helping me to move through the process of change, so I can finally let go.

I honor the moments of beauty.

I honor the tenderness and adoration we had for one another.

I honor the deep love we shared.

...

I accept that, in order to become myself, I needed to leave that life behind.

I accept that our love was not meant to be forever in this lifetime.

...

I honor my commitment to my Path.

I honor the Love I have for myself.

...

I choose to grow up.

I choose to become myself.

I am an Agent of Transformation.

I am Love.

You do not need to call yourself a spaceholder in order to hold space.

Parents hold space for their children every day. Bus drivers hold space for the bus full of people they drive from one end of town to another. Baristas hold space for the coffee shop—serving customers, choosing music, wiping down the counters, sweeping the floors.

If you have ever come out of a workout class and said to yourself, “That was the best workout of my life!”, chances are, that instructor knew how to hold space. Either consciously or unconsciously, they relied on the intelligence of their physical, emotional, energetic, and mental bodies to guide you through an experience with presence, attention, and care.

Here in my community, there are many opportunities to hold space. I can hold space to plan a house trip upstate. I can hold space for the Lost and Found to be kept neat and orderly. I can hold space for the new 500-lb industrial refrigerator to be moved into the kitchen.

Whenever I am holding space, I am taking Responsibility for something to happen. I am taking a stand because I care—about creating spaces of presence and intimacy, about the cleanliness of our common area, about having more storage space for produce.

I invite you to notice all the ways in which you are already holding space in your life. Do you hold space for dinner parties at your house? For meetings at your company with top executives? For separating the recycling at your house? For getting everyone to school or work on time?

If you want to be even more dangerous, I invite you to ask: What, by holding space for these things to happen, am I taking a stand for? And is this stand aligned with my heart’s authentic longing?

Yesterday, one of the kindergarten children stumbled and fell while playing on the playground. He got up wincing and holding his wrist, but without making any sounds.

“Are you OK, Noah?” I asked.

He stared straight ahead and pretended not to hear me. As he pressed his trembling lips together, the tears receded from his eyes. I was amazed and at the same time unsurprised: at the age of 5, he had already decided it was not OK to express his feelings and was able to suppress them at will.

I was reminded of a moment from my own childhood, when I asked somebody — some parent or teacher or camp counselor — when I would stop crying all the time.

I was aware that others around me, particularly older children, looked down on “crybabies.” It was not cool to cry. It was not adult to cry. Crying meant that somebody was boring, babyish, and not worth playing with.

Whatever adult I was talking to looked at me and said something along the lines of, “Well, you just learn to toughen up.”

Looking back, I see this as the moment that I learned to turn my feelings — neutral sources of energy and information that get expressed and then dissipate — into emotions — incomplete feelings from the past that get locked in the body unexpressed.

From then on, I can remember multiple times that I bit my lip, forced the tears backwards into my eye sockets, and pushed the sadness down so nobody would see it. I remember even feeling proud the first time I successfully suppressed my tears — I was doing it! I was “growing up.”

What I have learned through my work in Possibility Management about unexpressed feelings is they don’t go away; they simply stay knotted up, lurking until something in the present re-activates them. Maybe the way my partner teases me is reminiscent of a time when I was bullied in school, for example. They make a joke, the wound gets triggered, the emotions come pouring out, and I am no longer in the present. I am back to the moment I was on the playground, feeling the unexpressed pain that I did not have the tools to deal with then.

Modern culture’s tools for dealing with feeling are extremely outdated. We are encouraged to conceal, not feel, and create emotions left and right, until a person is nothing more than a bundle of suppressed anger, sadness, fear, and joy. Perhaps you know this pain yourself.

Gladly, those of us who are spaceholders for children — parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers, caregivers, or nannies — have a unique opportunity to break the cycle. When I am with a child, I can hold space for them to feel everything they are really feeling and let them know that they can actually use their feelings for something — that they can use their Anger to say STOP, or their Sadness to accept what is, or their Fear to invent something new, or their Joy to make an invitation. Instead of saying “Don’t cry,” or “Don’t be scared,” or “It’s not so bad,” I can make it safe for that child to feel the full intensity of their feelings and still be OK. I create a culture where growing up is not about stuffing down feelings, but about feeling them consciously and using them for creation.

One of my favorite tools to use with children is called a Completion Loop. In a Completion Loop, I simply repeat back to the child exactly what they said. If the child says, “I miss my mommy,” I look at them and say, “You miss your mommy.” In this way, I let the child know that they are heard, without trying to change their experience in any way.

When the child knows that the communication is received and that they are heard, they can say the next thing:

“Yes. I really miss her reading me a bedtime story.”

“You miss her reading you a bedtime story.”

“Yes. I want her to come home soon.”

“You want her to come home soon.”

“Yes. I want her to come home so we can make banana bread.”

“You want her to come home so you can make banana bread.”

“Yes, banana bread is my favorite!” Etc.

In the past, I would unintentionally make a child’s feelings into a problem. “I miss my mommy,” the child would say, and I would answer something like, “Well, don’t worry, you’ll see her soon. Why don’t you go color or make a tower with your friends?”

I realize now that, when this happens, the communication from the child’s heart is blocked. The message of “I miss my mommy” has not been received. Instead, the child has internalized the message that their feelings are a problem and something to get rid of. Why else would a grown-up be reassuring them and offering them distractions to stop feeling?

There are many ways to block a communication, from Ordering/ Directing/ Commanding to Advising/ Giving Solutions/ Suggesting. I highly recommend reading about Completion Loops and the 12 Roadblocks to Communication.

Once, on the playground, I heard a child go up to their grown-up and say, “My hands are cold.” Their grown-up exclaimed, “It’s not even cold out!”

A few years go, I wouldn’t have thought twice about this. I had probably said similar things myself. And yet, when I heard it this time, I felt incredibly sad that this child’s reality was not acknowledge — that they were told, instead, implicitly, that their experience was somehow wrong.

I feel sad that, for a long time, I did not realize how simple it can be to hold space for a child to feel. And I feel glad that now I know: I do not have to stop them from feeling whatever they are feeling. I do not have to solve their problem. I can simply let the child know that they are heard, seen, and loved.

Imagine what a world would look like where every child had space to feel and express — to give voice to their Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Joy, and for it not to be a problem. Where they were safe to say what was in their heart, and to know that a grown-up could hold them in that feeling.

Dear Edgeworker,

I am in the process of researching how my Anger can create Love.

On the first of February, I went to Washington Square Park to do Dragon Speaking with two other Possibilitators, Beth McNamara and Leslie Greenwood. Dragon Speaking is a high-intensity expression of Anger where you let the Dragon inside you speak about what you care about.

Through practicing Conscious Anger work, I have discovered that my Anger does not need to be against something—my Anger can actually be for something. For Dignity. For Integrity. For Transformation.

I am angry to become undefended, to be real, to let Love in.

I am angry to reveal more of myself—to put my weapons on the table and expose the ways I am competing, lying, manipulating, blaming, trying to be right, trying to be perfect, and creating resentments. Yesterday, in a team with seven other Women of Earth, I began the 12-week journey of Gremlin Transformation to do exactly that.

I am angry to see my Underworld with a neutral eye, so that I have more space for my Being to unfold.

I am angry to be a Bridge from Modern Culture to Archiarchy, a new regenerative culture that is naturally emerging on planet earth.

This Friday, on the day appointed by Modern Culture as Valentine’s Day, you can join me and Beth McNamara for an online worktalk and practice space called Rage For Love, to let your Anger speak about what you really want in intimacy with another person. To clear out old resentments and stories to make space for Love to flow.

Dear Edgeworker,

We are part of a monumental shift that is happening here on earth. All over the planet, people are waking up to their feelings, to their hearts, to the realization that something else really is possible.

I sense this shift as an Archetypal Wave, sweeping up those who have been clinging to the shores of Modern Culture and tossing them into the sea of Archiarchy.

Right now, this wave is sweeping the Eastern Seaboard. Last weekend was the final session of Rage Club: Live Full Out in Brooklyn. Yesterday, I delivered an Introduction to Rage Club with Beth McNamara and Joseph Goldin in Western Massachusetts, an area already bubbling with healers and Edgeworkers.

One woman shared that, with her Sword of Clarity, she was able to look at her best friend of 7 years in a way she had never looked at her before—without Fear. Another woman shared that, with her Anger, she had the experience of Dignity flowing in the space—not as something that could be given or received, but simply as a Bright Principle.

This year, my birthday falls on a new moon, the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year. We are entering the year of the Wood Snake. Just as the snake sheds it skin, so too does each of us have the possibility of starting over—at any time. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, wood is associated with Anger, creativity, flexibility, and strength, like the bamboo stems that bend but do not break.

The last year of the wood snake was 1965—the year that Malcolm X was assassinated, demonstrations mounted against the Vietnam War, the Beatles played Shea Stadium, and thousands marched from Selma to Montgomery to claim the right of Black Americans to vote.

Recently a friend and I were discussing Theories of Change. In my opinion, there is no correct answer to this question. Some of us may be politicians, targeting incremental change through policymaking. Some of us may be street activists, marching for environmental or women’s rights. Some of us may be undercover Agents of Transformation, throwing wrenches in the education or healthcare system from the inside. Some of us may be Rage Club Spaceholders, holding space for people to reclaim their Authority and create lives they truly love.

I have one more Introduction to Rage Club coming up in Brooklyn, as well as a 6- to 8-week training in Basic Inner Navigation Skills starting Sunday, February 9. If you want to learn to consciously feel your feelings, speak from the heart, and repattern old beliefs, this space is for you.

Learn To Feel

In this training, you will practice the following Basic Inner Navigation Skills:

1. To distinguish and inner navigate the 4 Feelings (Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Joy) and whether you are experiencing a Feeling or an Emotion.

2. To be in First Position (Centered, Grounded, and Bubbled) with your Sword of Clarity out.

3. To distinguish and inner navigate between your 5 Bodies. For example, can you distinguish between a Feeling and a Thought? If you say “I feel like I am being attacked,” then you are not distinguishing that “being attacked” is a story that comes from your Mental Body. Or if you say “I feel like I am lost,” you are not distinguishing between a Feeling and your Energetic Body.

4. To be able to let your Heart speak into a Vacuum Listening space.

Over these 6 weeks, we will practice these BINS together in order to give you the possibility to go through an Emotional Healing Process (EHP) and change the shape of your Being.

What is the culture you want to live in?

Culture to Culture Conversations

When two different worlds meet, our tendency is to go to two extremes: either to fight and try to convince the other person to become like us, or to adapt, agree, and be in a false state of harmony, which results in internal torsion due to not being in Integrity with oneself.

There is no need to go as far as the example of an Indigenous person talking to a businessman. Cultural differences exist between you and your partner, for example. In his culture, “Authority” is a capitalist term that means power over other people and control, whereas in your culture, “Authority” means the freedom to ask, declare, and choose things that are not on the menu. Or in the culture of French theater, for example, “Shit,” means success, the audience is full, whereas in your culture, “Shit” means excrement.

We do not relate to the world as it is. We relate to it through maps, words, stories, narratives, and culture. There is something beyond this black and white. It is called a Culture- to-Culture conversation.

In this workshop, we will practice this skill to navigate in different universes and worlds.​

It may come as a surprise to learn that your destiny is optional. You can choose to serve your destiny, or not. Most people do not.

For a start, it helps to know that you do not have just one body. Besides your physical body, which is made up of blood, skin, flesh, and bones, you have an emotional body (made up of feelings and emotions); an energetic body (your sense of timing, space, and ownership); and an intellectual body (ideas, thoughts, thoughtmaps, thoughtware, and beliefs).

You also have an archetypal body, which comes online only when the other four bodies are nourished. Your archetypal body is the gateway to your destiny, your purpose, and your archetypal lineage.

Which of your bodies is undernourished right now? You may be an expert at nourishing your physical body with leafy greens and grains, while neglecting your energetic body’s need to lie quietly on the earth. Or perhaps you consistently nourish your intellectual body with news articles and podcasts while ignoring your emotional body’s need to express your feelings consciously. Chances are, if you are missing the distinction of the 5 bodies, at least one of your bodies is undernourished.

I have discovered that one of the foods that nourishes my archetypal body is holding space for Rage Club. Empowering people to reclaim their Dignity, Authority, and Center is part of my Nonmaterial Value, which unfolds from the unique qualities of my Being. When I hold space for Rage Club, it is not actually me holding space; it is my Archetypal Lineage flowing through me.

This month, I am holding space for three in-person Introductions to Rage Club and a five-week online Rage Club series for Mothers. The first one is this Saturday, from 3-5 pm.

Dear Edgeworker,

Your life is shaped by the questions you hold inside you.

What questions—both conscious and unconscious—are governing the way you move through the world? If the questions you are holding are “How can I make enough money?” or “How can I assuage my parents’ fears and make myself acceptable in their eyes?” then your life will naturally be a reflection of that orientation.

If, on the other hand, you are with the questions “How can I lay the foundation for a new culture to arise on planet Earth?” or “How can I hold space for more people to reclaim their dignity and integrity?” then you will find yourself with a very different Quest and, therefore, a very different life.

The questions I am with right now are How can I be light enough for E.C.C.O. (the Earth Coincidence Control Office) to move me? and What baggage do I need to drop in order to be radically free?

Three weeks of trainings, followed by the Archiarcy Makers’ Fair—a collaborative space for people creating Next Culture—have ended in Poland. I write to you from Switzerland, where I am spending a few days before heading back to New York.
